Co-financing with Multilateral Agencies (MLAs)

Projects in non-OECD countries are often co-financed by multilateral agencies and commercial banks. MLAs benefit from ‘preferred creditor status’, and so co-financing with one or more MLAs allows us to fund projects in less politically stable, emerging countries.

The most important MLA is the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is a member of the World Bank Group. But there are other more regional institutions, too, such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
